Letter of Appreciation from Steven Spielberg

[28th October 1985]

Dear Shawnee,

I so rarely do this but after witnessing your performance last night in Crime of Innocence, I had to write telling you what a wonderful actress you are.

Every few years an artist comes along and distinguishes him or herself through their honesty, poignancy and complete lack of pretense. The last actor who impressed me like this was Molly Ringwald.

And now it's you.

I wish for you all the success in the world.

And let me be so bold and offer you a simple bit of advice: never be more than who you are.

Here's hoping we'll have a chance to work together someday.

Best of luck,

Steven Spielberg
