2 December 2003:

Back in January of this year, I sent a note to the Becker production office & Shawnee Smith c/o CBS, requesting an autographed photo. On 28 November I received a reply from CBS. You can see the interesting note here.

All 13 episodes have been completed for Becker's 6th season, according to tvtix.com. If the sets haven't been struck, maybe the show can be brought back again. We can only hope....

9 November 2003:

Shawnee has apparently appeared as a guest voice on the Disney Channel cartoon series "Kim Possible" according to information here  The episode was just repeated this afternoon. I did not see it, so I cannot confirm if this is indeed "our" Shawnee Smith. Always thought she had a good voice for this sort of thing. Maybe she'll guest voice an episode of The Simpsons next ?!

27 May 2003:

Becker has indeed run it's course and been cancelled by CBS. The series is nowhere to be found on CBS' Fall Schedule press release here. See also this article. 5 Seasons for a total of 116 episodes -- not a bad run at all.

Screengrabs from the McDonald's "Best Friends" commercial she appeared in circa 1978 here

There are 3 songs recorded in 2002 ("Please Myself", "Head" and "Deciding") with Shawnee Smith on vocals available for download here

15 April 2003:

Interesting notes about the Summer School (1987) Shooting Script here

The last 2 episodes of Becker Season 5 air on Sunday, 20 April at 7pm Central Time in the US.  This ends Season 5 out of the May rating sweeps period and with just 22 episodes instead of the usual 24. The total number of episodes is now 116.  The series will be rerun on WGN starting around September 2003 in "stripped" format (Monday through Friday).

Some observations have led me to believe that Becker as a series has almost run its course:

At least 3 episodes have been pre-empted [a scheduled new episode not airing] this season with frequent spillover from sports overtimes. This didn't happen in the Monday timeslot.

My Big Fat Greek Life sitcom was given Becker's timeslot; Becker was relegated to the second half of the hour following 60 Minutes.

Though the ratings haven't been in the Top 10 this season that I know of, the total number of actual viewers has apparently increased since last season.

I noticed a lack of promotion from CBS for the 100th episode.  The episode was, in fact, preempted and then rescheduled due to a sports overtime. There was a contest associated with the episode to count how many times the number "100" appears which also had to be modified for the rescheduled date. There also seemed to be a lack of promotion for the series in general.

Producers of the show have now passed the magic 100+ episodes needed for syndication -- they will be able to make a return on their investment without making new episodes.

CBS announces their series renewals on 14 May so check the news then. Hopefully Becker will be included.

26 January 2003:

If you're bored, there's a Becker Matchmaker game here

Added two MP3s of Shawnee singing in two different styles (blues & jazz):

"Baby What You Want Me To Do?" from Brand New Life (1989) here [2:10, 48kbps, mono]

"I Fear" from Carnival of Souls (1998) here [1:29, 128kbps, stereo; two sections of the song heard in the film joined with a fade]

I recommend WinAmp for playing MP3s. Send me an email if you like the songs or have a problem downloading them. (thanks to Don Gough for hosting the files offsite.)

1st January 2003:

"The FBI Files: A Model Killer" (60m) about Christopher Wilder [dramatized in Easy Prey (1986)] is scheduled to be rerun on the Discovery Channel in the US on 6th January 2003 (Sunday overnight at 1am CST).

The U.S. only gets 2 new Becker episodes this month on 5th & 26th January. February will likely have all new episodes for the month since it's a rating sweeps period.

Added some screengrabs from The Stand (1994) here

Removed the screengrabs from the current season of Becker. I'll add more screengrabs from the second half of the season in a few months.

Created small logos for each main page and "back" buttons for a cleaner, more unified graphic appearance to the whole site -- and I finally got the main logo at the top right!
