"Mover & Shakers": Saw came, she conquered

Hollywood actor Shawnee Smith, 35, always expected to be known only as the ditzy nurse's aide Linda from the TV series Becker. That was until the bear trap happened.

Appearing in a short but incredibly shocking scene with a trap attached to her jaw in last year's hit horror flick Saw, Smith instantly bounced on the radar for thousands of fans across the globe.

Now she's back with a more substantial role - and an even more shocking scene involving syringes - in the film's sequel Saw II.

While shooting the film, Smith managed to keep a little secret from the director - that she was pregnant with her son "due any second."

"If I start grunting during this interview, it's because I'm in labor," Smith said. "It was for the best not to tell them, because they would have made changes and it would have been a different movie."

But her little boy can forget seeing his first big-screen appearance anytime soon.

"I'll let him see it when he's 35, at least," she said.

Smith, who describes herself as "a working actor, I'm nowhere near being a star", has spent most of her life in front of a camera, beginning as a dancer in the musical Annie at age 12.
